(Q) Can anyone come to the VFW?
(A) Due to state regulations, we cannot allow anyone under the age of 21 into the building. Otherwise, all veterans are always welcome, as well as their guests.
(Q) Does it cost anything to come to the VFW?
(A)Admission to the building is free, membership to the VFW is currently $23 a year, provided you meet eligibility requirements. State regulations prevent anyone under the age of 21 from entering the building.
(Q) Does the VFW ever rent the hall?
(A)Requests to use the hall are handled on a case-by-case basis, and are subject to guidelines as outlined by federal regulations concerning chartered not-for-profit organizations, as well as our local and national charter. Additionally, state laws limit the number and age of people allowed into the hall.
(Q) Do I have to play bingo to be eligible to win a door prize?
(A) There are two types of drawings we do for door prizes. One is in support of the Ladies Auxiliary, and you do NOT have to play bingo to purchase chances. The other is for our bingo players, and chances are given based on the number of packs purchased.
(Q) Does the VFW do any community activities?
(A) Currently, the Leo Mann post supports national Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen, Teacher Awards, and 5th grade Flag Education. The post also supports the Chamber of Commerce back-to-school supply drive, and provides scholarships to area students. During certain federal holidays, the post also hosts a memorial service at the Nevada County Courthouse.
(Q) Who does the VFW support? What charities does the VFW donate to?
(A) The VFW donates to many local, state, and national charities. Scholarships and special cases are handled at the discretion of the membership. Veteran affiliation for scholarships is not a requirement, but is a considered factor. Private donations to individuals are, with certain exceptions, limited to veterans in need.
